A 20.6-pound blueline tilefish caught on Aug. 24 is the brand new Maryland state report. Caught by London J. Anthony, of Pasadena, Maryland, the large blueline was lower than 3 kilos off the present IGFA all-tackle world report.
Anthony was deep-dropping with standard hand-crank gear and a piece of lower ballyhoo at Poorman’s Canyon off Ocean Metropolis.
Reeling within the Report Tilefish
“We had an extended morning trolling with no bites,” Anthony stated. “Later within the day, Capt. Chris Little of Speaking Trash Charters pulled a rabbit out of his hat and put us all on a pile of tilefish … My fish was landed with one other fish 24 inches lengthy — a double header! I felt like I used to be reeling in three cinder blocks.”
The fish was weighed on a licensed scale at Crabs to Go in Berlin, and the species was verified by Maryland DNR officers. Anthony’s catch broke the earlier report of 20 kilos, caught by Robert Purcell in 2012, at Norfolk Canyon. The IGFA all-tackle world report weighed 23 kilos, 4 ounces. It was caught off New Jersey by Mark Milici in 2015.
